The Corvallis community is invited to the LWVC’s November program – Downtown Corvallis Update: Recommendations and Financing.
This program is a follow-up to the February Know Your City: Downtown Corvallis – Past, Present, Future program. That program included information about the work of the Corvallis Downtown Vitality Strategy Task Force (DVSTF). The Task Force presented their final report to City Council on July 20. Afterwards, the Council initiated a study to determine if it would be feasible to use Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to pay for some of the DVSTF recommendations, including needed downtown infrastructure improvements.
This program will provide information on the DVSTF recommendations, the Downtown Corvallis Organization’s projects in response, and tax increment financing – how does it work, what can it do, how has it been used?
Julie Manning, co-chair of the Downtown Vitality Strategy Task Force
Deann Garcia, Downtown Corvallis Organization president and DVSTF member
Christopher Jacobs, City of Corvallis economic development manager
Jim Moorefield, former director of Willamette Neighborhood Housing, a partner in the formation of the South Corvallis Urban Renewal District
Shawn Irvine, City of Independence economic development director, Independence Urban Renewal District
Please note, this program is designed to provide information only. Currently the LWVC neither supports nor opposes the DVSTF recommendations or the use of TIF. When the city defines specific proposals, we will evaluate them against our position on Special Taxing Districts and Urban Renewal Districts.
