Volunteers needed for LB sessions
Volunteers are needed to facilitate small group training sessions for students in various health care fields of study at Linn-Benton Community College.
No medical experience is needed.
A free information session and facilitator training will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at LBCC's Calapooia Center, room 213, 6500 Pacific Blvd. S.W.
Health care students in the fields of pharmacy, medical assisting, nursing, physician, and public health from Linn-Benton Community College, Comp-N.W. Medical School and Oregon State University will meet in small, interdisciplinary group sessions to work on communications skills.
Volunteer facilitators help guide the students through real-life case scenarios during each session.
Facilitators should be prepared to commit to approximately 15 hours of volunteer time during the sessions, which will be held October 2015 through April 2016.

Lebanon library holds digital device workshop
LEBANON — The Lebanon Library and the Lebanon Senior Center are co-sponsoring an informal digital device workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in the Community Room at the library, 55 Academy St.
This is a drop-in session for people who would like to learn more about how to use their iPads, Kindles, smartphones, etc., including how to download books and audio books from Library2Go (which is an added benefit with holders of Lebanon Public Library cards).

SHIBA class set for Sept. 17
LEBANON — The Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments (OCWCOG) and Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance program will host a free class on Sept. 17 to discuss Medicare benefits and options for changes or additional coverage.
The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Annex, 44 Industrial Way. It is designed to benefit those who may be receiving Medicare coverage within a few months as well as those who would like to better understand their Medicare benefits and options. It will cover the basics of Medicare parts A, B, C and D.
Spouses and other relatives of Medicare recipients are welcome to attend.
A SHIBA counselor will be presenting the class which is sponsored by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSV)P and OCWCOG.

Tomato and Salsa Fest coming to Lebanon
LEBANON — The eighth annual Tomato and Salsa Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Timeless Gardens Nursery, 33527 Brewster Road.
The event is free, and all proceeds will go Hannah’s House, a division of Adult & Teen Challenge PNW for women at risk.
People are encouraged to bring their favorite salsa and enter in the tasting contest. There will be three categories and cash prizes for Best All Around Salsa, Hottest and Most Unusual. There is a $3 entry fee, and contestants must bring a quart of salsa for the competition.
Additional activities will include appearances by Master Gardeners, who will have a booth where they will answer gardening questions. Master Gardener Lisa Almarode will be featured at the tasting table with numerous types of tomatoes on display.
There is also a Largest Tomato contest, raffle prizes and hourly door prizes for those in attendance. The event will include food samples, games for kids, salsa making demonstrations and special prices on flowers and plants from Timeless Gardens.
Additional vendors representing 4-C’s Candy Company, Fused Glass Jewelry by Arlene Crisp and Ochoa Queseria of Albany will be on hand. Midnight Oil Farms will have goat milk soap and will bring baby goats for display.
