Here is a look at Saturday’s prep volleyball state round-of-16 matches. All winners advance to next week’s state tournaments.
No. 11 West Albany at No. 6 Sprague
Records: West Albany 20-6, 13-3 Greater Valley Conference; Sprague 15-1 GVC
Time: 6:30 p.m.
West Albany and Sprague will meet for the fourth time this season Saturday night in Salem.
The Olympians, who swept 27th-seeded Tualatin in the opening round, needed five sets to win both conference matchups with the Bulldogs. West earned a 2-0 victory over the GVC champions at the Central Catholic tournament.
The Bulldogs have won 13 of their last 14 matches, including a sweep of No. 22 Grant in Wednesday’s round of 32.
Sprague hasn’t been to the 6A state tournament since 2013 while the Bulldogs last made it in 2014.
No. 10 La Salle at No. 7 Lebanon
Records: La Salle 14-6, 11-3 Northwest Oregon Conference; Lebanon 13-6, 11-3 Mid-Willamette Conference
Time: 6 p.m.
The Warriors, who finished second in the MWC behind No. 4 Corvallis, are in the round of 16 for the sixth consecutive season. Lebanon advanced to the state tournament in each of the previous five campaigns.
La Salle placed third in the Northwest Oregon Conference, finishing behind No. 5 Sandy and No. 9 Wilsonville.
Lebanon was the state runner-up last year for the first time in program history. The Warriors have never won a state title.
No. 9 Sweet Home at No. 8 Crook County
Records: Sweet Home 15-4, 8-2 Sky-Em League; Crook County 14-10, 9-1 Tri-Valley Conference
Time: 6 p.m.
Sweet Home has won nine of its last 10 matches, including a sweep of Seaside in the play-in round, entering Saturday’s showdown with Crook County.
The Huskies haven’t qualified for the state tournament since 2011.
Tri-Valley-champion Crook County, last year’s state runner-up, is just 5-9 against nonconference opponents.
No. 14 Catlin Gabel at No. 3 Santiam Christian
Records: Catlin Gabel 9-7, 8-4 4A Lewis & Clark League; Santiam Christian 19-3, 13-1 3A West Valley League
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Santiam Christian is looking to extend its state tournament appearance streak to 15 Saturday afternoon. The Eagles have captured six state titles during the span.
Catlin Gabel swept Portland Adventist in a Lewis & Clark League playoff match to earn a spot in the round of 16. The Portland school has won three straight matches after dropping four of its previous five.
SC is 11-0 at home this season.
No. 13 Harrisburg at No. 4 Salem Academy
Records: Harrisburg 15-8, 6-4 Mountain Valley Conference; Salem Academy 21-5, 12-0 PacWest Conference
Time: 4 p.m.
Harrisburg was swept by Creswell in the MVC playoffs but earned 3A’s lone at-large bid to the round of 16.
The Eagles are just 7-7 overall since an 8-1 start to the season.
Salem Academy ran the table in PacWest play but fell to Blanchet in the conference title match.
No. 12 Scio at No. 5 Vale
Records: Scio 15-6, 9-3 PacWest; Vale 23-5, 10-0 Eastern Oregon League
Time: 1 p.m.
Scio punched its ticket to the round of 16 with a 3-1 home victory over Jefferson in the PacWest playoffs.
The Loggers also made the postseason last year and suffered a straight-sets loss at Cascade Christian in Medford.
Vale, the 2015 state champion, placed third at last fall’s state tournament.
No. 13 Delphian at No. 4 Central Linn
Records: Delphian 15-10, 9-3 Northwest League; Central Linn 19-3, 11-1 Tri-River Conference
Time: 2:30 p.m.
Central Linn, the Tri-River’s regular-season champion, dropped a five-setter to No. 3 Kennedy in the conference title match.
The Cobras advanced to the state tournament a season ago, earning a fourth-place finish after falling in the quarterfinals.
Red-hot Delphian has won seven in a row entering the playoffs.
