Providence’s Adrian Lyons-Lopez (South Albany) placed second in the 174-pound bracket at last weekend’s NAIA Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lyons-Lopez, a junior, was also a runner-up at a National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament last winner.
College of Idaho’s Maddy Kelly (Lebanon) shared third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.28 seconds last weekend at the NAIA National Championships in Columbus, Georgia.
Kelly, a junior, is now a seven-time NAIA All-American.
Nate Sherwood (West Albany) had two points, an assist and a block Saturday in Idaho’s 78-76 win over Southern Utah. Teammate Chad Sherwood (West Albany) added two rebounds and two assists.
Last Thursday, Nate Sherwood had seven points and three assists while Chad Sherwood recorded five points, two rebounds an assist and a block in a 66-52 win over Northern Arizona.
Cooper Getsfrid (West Albany) had 19 points, nine rebounds, an assist and a steal last Wednesday in Linn-Benton’s 90-87 loss at Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay. The Roadrunners will open the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships against Edmonds at noon Saturday in Everett, Washington.
Corey James (West Albany) had three points, two rebounds and an assist Monday in Portland State’s 77-61 victory over Northern Arizona at the Big Sky Championship in Reno, Nevada.
Friday, James had five points, four rebounds and a steal as the Vikings closed the regular season with an 80-61 victory at North Dakota.
Katie Skipworth (Lebanon) had eight points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal last Wednesday in Skagit Valley’s 65-43 home victory over Edmonds in Mount Vernon, Washington.
Men’s track and field
Western Oregon’s Trey Reed (Scio) placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 57.95 seconds Saturday at the Willamette Opener in Salem.
George Fox’s Nicholas Armour (Santiam Christian) finished 21st in the 100 (11.77) and 24th in the long jump (19 feet, 1¼ inches) at last weekend’s Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker in McMinnville.
Women’s track and field
Western Oregon’s Nicole Niskanen (South Albany) placed seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:02.66 at the Willamette Opener.
Competing for Corban, MacKenzie Wilson (East Linn Christian) finished second in the 100 (12.88) and sixth in the 200 (27.16).
Linfield’s Josie Knight (Sweet Home) placed 12th in the shot put with a top throw of 32-11¾ at the Erick Anderson Memorial Icebreaker.
Logan Nousen (Harrisburg) pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts and a walk to get the win Sunday in Oregon Tech’s 7-4 victory at College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho.
Darren Crosby (Santiam Christian) allowed one run on three hits in 1⅔ innings of relief Saturday in Whitworth’s 7-3 victory at Willamette in Salem.
Josh Gerig (East Linn Christian) was a combined 3 for 10 with two walks, four RBIs and three runs scored last weekend as Howard Payne went 3-1 at the Tucson Invitation Tournament in Arizona.
Alex Pynes (West Albany) was a combined 0 for 4 Sunday as Shasta split a doubleheader with Siskiyous in Redding, California.
Kelsey Broadus (West Albany) allowed just one unearned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to get the win Sunday in Boise State’s 9-1, five-inning victory over Weber State.
Saturday, Broadus gave up an unearned run in ⅔ of an inning in a 4-3 loss to Utah Valley.
Friday, she surrendered five runs (two earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 4⅓ innings as the Broncos fell 9-5 to Montana.
All games were part of the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.
Hannah Yelas (Santiam Christian) allowed seven runs on 11 hits in five innings Monday as Northwest dropped a 7-6 decision to Concordia.
Earlier in the day, she gave up four runs on five hits in 3⅓ innings in a 6-4 victory over Aquinas.
Both games were part of the Tucson Tournament in Arizona.
Emily Marchbanks (Sweet Home) threw four shutout innings to pick up the win Sunday in Newberry’s 12-0, five-inning victory over Bloomfield.
Saturday, Marchbanks lasted four innings and surrendered two runs on four hits in a 5-4 loss to Barry.
Both games were part of the Columbus State Tournament in Columbus, Georgia.
Nicole Whitney (Santiam Christian) was a combined 0 for 5 with a walk and a run scored Friday as San Diego Christian split a home doubleheader with La Sierra in Santee, California.
Kennedy Jantzi (West Albany) was a combined 1 for 6 with two RBIs and a home run Saturday as Mt. Hood dropped both legs of a doubleheader with Walla Walla in Walla Walla, Washington.
