In reply to James Engel that Trump doesn't get it (Mailbag, March 4):
James, the Vietnam War is over. Draft dodger POTUS Bill Clinton normalized relations with Vietnam in 1995. Since then Vietnam has become a nation of prosperity compared to North Korea and it is the perfect country to use as an example of peace with us. Trying to bring peace with North Korea after 60-years in which no other POTUS had any idea what it takes shows Trump as a real peace maker.
It's even more difficult to bring us peace when the Democrat resistance was working so hard to undermine the negotiations. At this point in time if we go to war then you can place the cause right at the feet of those who resisted peace. Hopefully at some point the insanity of resistance goes away and love of our country comes back.
James, North Korea has about 60 nukes and could kill millions. In trying to bring peace Trump couldn't show our failures in diplomacy like Libya where the dictator trusted us and gave up his weapons then we had him killed. So Vietnam was the obvious place to hold peace talks. Failure of those talks puts us still at war with North Korea and his nukes can reach you, your family, your neighbors and your country.
Maybe it's wise to cut the peacemakers some slack before we end up with another Vietnam style war.
