According to a recent D-H article, certain states are now scheming to hijack monies we the people and our businesses and corporations were to receive from the recent federal tax relief program.
This should surprise no one. The bulk of states' resources are progressively being appropriated through new taxation to support the state and its ubiquitous programs designed to help and protect us from every perceived evil.
Unfortunately, the day will likely arrive when we the people discover that we gladly accepted the premise that government was a beneficent entity making decisions only for our individual welfare and benefit.
Our country’s founders thought otherwise. They believed government to be vital in upholding the rule of law, acting as a buffer against anarchy, and preserving national boundaries. They also understood that a healthy nation could exit only when the role of government was minimally defined and wisely managed and controlled by a vigilant people.
The tragedy of our day is that we the people are willingly exchanging the freedom of self-determination and self-rule for the illusion of security as we demand the inexorable movement of the state toward socialism.
