I was raised when children were told to "Take a cold tater and wait!" Translation: You are not the center of the world and not the most important person in it.
Parents now seem to think they need to be their child's best friend. They seem to forget they are the one's who are going to raise a child to adulthood, then they and their children can become best friends!
