So the City of Albany is considering deep budget cuts over the next two years. These cuts are proposed to include budget reductions in the Fire Department, Police Department, Library, etc. However, eight new pickleball courts will be installed. Really. Now, I admit that I don't know much about pickleball, maybe its become an essential service. I don't mean to offend those who like to play pickleball, but would someone please explain the logic to me?

I see that these courts will be funded via SDC's, possible grants and private contributions. If it's all from private contributions, I'm all for it. But, IMO, we can use other sources of funding elsewhere.

I moved from Corvallis to Albany a few years ago to, in part, escape the higher cost of living and taxes. Albany is rapidly catching up by considering options (pickleball courts) that only a few benefit from.
