Reported in the Dec. 15 D-H, regarding the contract between some union workers and the city of Albany, the city made a statement saying they wanted to offer smaller raises because they have to be "good stewards of limited taxpayer money." Well, Albany spends on downtown fancy street lights and pays for consultants without mentioning limited taxpayer money.
Albany's urban renewal plan (CARA) gives that "limited taxpayer money" to well-off people who could get their own bank loans to improve their properties. These rich builders would rather have no interest/low interest CARA loans, if they can get them. And they can get them. The City Council loves their urban renewal and loves spending taxpayers' money.
