CARA (Albany City Council and mayor, that is) bought the old Wells Fargo Bank building downtown for $1.5 million.

I hope they open the Wells Fargo parking lot to the public. And, the Wells Fargo building can now sport "For Rent" signs like a goodly portion of the rest of CARA's downtown folly!

In the Feb. 7 edition of the Democrat-Herald, Albany City Manager Peter Troedsson is quoted, referring to a 1990s wish-list, specifically the Wells Fargo Building: "Now it's time to move forward on those aspirations." Yet, in the same newspaper the city manager said, regarding planning and eliminated staff positions and budget cuts, "resources within the city are pretty slim, strapped."

But, the city manager and the mayor and council didn't blink an eye at spending $1.5 million for the Wells Fargo property, and they have no idea what they will do with it.
