Free tax service is now available for seniors and low to moderate income families at four Linn County sites.
TaxAide, a partnership of Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), AARP Foundation, the United Way and the IRS, is providing help with federal and state returns through the filing deadline on April 15.
The program uses volunteers to aid in preparing e-file returns.
Two sites in Albany accept clients on a walk-in or appointment basis. Albany sites are located at the AlbanySeniorCenter, 489 Water Ave. N.W., and the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Ave. S.E. Hours for TaxAide at the SeniorCenter are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The library hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday. Lebanon and Sweet Home clients are by appointment only at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St., and the Sweet Home Elks Lodge, 440 Osage St. In Lebanon hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. Sweet Home appointments are on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. To arrange an appointment at either site call 541-258-4919.
Those interested in the program should bring:
- Social security card or individual taxpayer identification number for each family member
- W-2 forms for all jobs worked in 2014
- All 1099 forms for other income
- 1098 T forms for educational expenses
- Childcare provider information
- Picture identification of the taxpayers
- 1095-A form if you received one in the mail
- Copy of 2013 return
