Early election returns Tuesday are indicating Art Robinson will face Peter DeFazio for the fifth time in the November general election.

Voters in Linn and Benton counties both chose the 75-year-old former chairman of the Oregon Republican Party in the Republican primary. Robinson was defeating his closest challenger, Jo Rae Perkins of Albany, by 48 to 30 percent in Linn County and 46 to 27 percent in Benton County.

Court Boice, Michael Polen and Stefan Strek also were vying for the Republican seat. Statewide, Boice, a Curry County commissioner, edged ahead of Perkins but was still well behind Robinson's lead.

DeFazio faced Daniel Arcangel of Monmouth for the Democratic nomination to the U.S. 4th District seat, but the incumbent was winning handily in early returns Tuesday.

Robinson said in an earlier interview he believes each of his previous tries have built momentum and name recognition and brought him closer to the goal.

'It's a very difficult job to replace a career politician who’s entrenched in office. There’s tremendous infrastructure," Robinson said. "It's foolish to stop momentum now."
