Albany Police Department was investigating a rollover crash on Tuesday night where the man believed to be the driver fled from the scene, but was apprehended shortly afterward.

The crash occurred at about 5:20 p.m. on Ellingson Road, east of Highway 99E. The man believed to be the driver tried to run across a field toward Highway 99E but was apprehended by officers near Linn-Benton Community College.

"We're still confirming whether he was the driver or not," said Capt. Jeff Hinrichs, at about 5:45 p.m.

Neither the driver, nor the man believed to be the passenger in the vehicle, were seriously hurt.

The red SUV was headed westbound when it went off the roadway for an unknown reason. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office was assisting at the scene of the crash and in the area of LBCC.
