Officials investigate house fire in Lyons

  • 0

LYONS — Authorities including the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office are investigating a suspicious blaze that severely damaged a Lyons house Tuesday afternoon.

“I am going to guess it’s a total loss,” said Capt. Bob Bivans of the Lyons Rural Fire Protection District.

“We were told the house was unoccupied. ... Nobody was living there,” he added.

On Wednesday, investigators sifted through the charred wreckage, and may continue scouring the site today.

Bivans said there wasn’t any indication that there were squatters or vandals at the vacant property.

The fire was reported at 4:10 a.m., and apparently started in the daylight basement of the structure before flames climbed to the top floor.

Thirty-four firefighters from Lyons, Sublimity, Stayton, Aumsville and Gates responded to the blaze.

“Everybody did a great job for what we could do. We had to do everything from the exterior, which was hard, because all of the windows were up high,” Bivans said.

“Nobody got hurt, we got the fire out, and it didn’t burn to the ground,” he said.
