February 23, 1928 — March 2, 2018

Peter Jensen, age 90, passed away peacefully in the hospital after a brief illness on Friday, March 2, 2018.

He was born Niels Peter Jensen in Broby, Denmark, on February 23, 1928, to the late Sven Viggo and Karen Margrethe Jensen. He served in the Danish Army as a King’s Guard before he came to Eugene on the American Scandinavian Foundation exchange program in 1953 and was employed by the Edwin Hansen Cloverleaf Dairy on Harlow Road.

He married Helen Hansen in 1954 and they were happily married for 63 years. In the fall of 1965, they purchased a dairy farm from Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore in Halsey, which they operated until Peter retired in 1996.

Peter served on various dairy and agricultural organizations including Darigold, the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association and the Calapooia Watershed Council. He also served on the Central Linn School Board.

He was a faithful and loyal member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as elder.

In his retirement years, Peter continued to follow current events. He enjoyed reading the Bible as well as about politics and history. He always took great pleasure being outside on the farm and enjoyed singing Danish hymns and other songs with his family at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Sara and brother Eivind in Denmark; his children, Kirsten Jensen, Kathleen Melson and husband Steve, Karen Jensen, Paul Jensen and wife, Laura, and Joanne Jensen; grandchildren, Clare Hamblen, Kyle Jensen and wife Cally, Katie Jensen and husband Ben, Kelsey Cordier and husband Justin, Andrew Hubata-Vacek, Timothy Hubata-Vacek; step-grandchildren Chris Melson and wife Shelby, Annie Cox and husband Kenny; great-grandchildren, Lucca, Sadie, Emmarie, Paxton, Brooklyn, Madison and Kayleigh arriving in March; and numerous nieces and nephews in Denmark and the United States.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Bodil and Kirsten.

Arrangements will be made by Musgrove Family Mortuary.

Burial will be private on Friday, March 9, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2533 Crescent Avenue, Eugene.

The family suggests memorials to the Eugene Mission.

He is cherished and his warm presence will be greatly missed by his family in the United States and Denmark.
