Sept. 26, 1934 — April 23, 2012
N. Marlene Sprague, 77, passed away in her sleep on Monday, April 23, with family by her side.
Marlene Sprague (Muller) was born in Albany to Harold and Melba Muller. Marlene grew up in Halsey where she attended and graduated from Halsey High School.
She met Bill Sprague, the love of her life, during high school. Bill and Marlene were married on July 11, 1953. Prior to her husbands death in 2007, Bill and Marlene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Marlene was a devoted ‘stay at home’ housewife and loving mother to her four children. She was active in the PTA at Central Grade School and always had extra table settings at the dinner or backyard picnic table for one of the many neighborhood kids that would stop by.
Marlene always had a hobby. If she wasn’t giving one of her many friends a perm while the kids were in school, she was busy with a craft project to keep her self busy.
Marlene always had an affinity for pets. Once the children grew up, she started All Breeds Pet Grooming Parlor in downtown Albany. After years of working with cats, she started her own cattery, and joined several local cat clubs. She literally had rooms in her home devoted to all of her awards from the many cat shows she attended and placed in.
One of Marlene’s true loves was to vacation in Hawaii, where she and her husband Bill of 54 years were the life of every Walkittoomie party. Marlene and Bill always dreamed of retiring on the Oregon Coast, so in 1994 they moved to Seal Rock to begin their retirement. After Bill was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2000, they decided to move back to Albany to be closer to their kids and medical facilities.
Surviors include her daughter Dana D.; sons Dan D., Bill R. and Scott H. Sprague; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Marlene Sprague was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Melba Muller; husband Bill Sprague; brothers Gerald Muller and Duane Muller; and grandchildren Ayanna and Brittany Sprague.
A private celebration of life will be held at the home of Scott and Dena Sprague.
