Marion "Jake" Fitzgerald, 80, of Tangent passed away Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Jake was born in Joliette, Pembina County, N.D., to James E. and Ellen E. (Smith) Fitzgerald. He served in the Army and was discharged in 1949. In 1956, Jake married Shirley E. Beers in Flagstaff, Ariz. In 1969, he established and continued to operate Home Insulation Contractors Inc. in Tangent. Jake was also a member of the Federation of Independent Contractors, Home Builders Association of Linn & Benton Counties, the Golden Shores Church in Arizona, the Assembly of God Church in Reedsport, the Tangent Community Church, as well as a member of the Moose Lodge for over 50 years.
Jake was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors, his great-grandchildren and attending church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. Fitzgerald; children Deane S. Morrow of Crawfordsville, Letha May of Albany, H. Michael Gillispie of Albany, Jimmie M. Fitzgerald of Veneta, and Debra M. (Fitzgerald) Drean of Golden Shores, Ariz.; brother Archie Dean Fitzgerald of Medford; sisters Ellen Emma Marciniak and husband Steve of North Dakota, Ruby Alice Dybedahl and husband Milo of Minnesota, and Ruthie Jean Green and husband Cliff of Minnesota; sisters-in-law Ruth Fitzgerald and husband Elmer of Browning, Mont., and Merle Jackson Fitzgerald and husband Ralph of Eugene; brother-in-law John "Bud" Pettis of Livermore, Calif.; grandchildren Rod Midkiff, Royce W. Boyd, Michael D. Boyd, L. Lyn Boyd, S Jacob Payne, Cheri A. Heath, Shantel M. Rice, Jeremy J. Chamblee, Miranda Drean, August May and Jeremy Higginbotham; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ralph A. Fitzgerald, Robert Paul Fitzgerald, John Elmer Fitzgerald; and sister Alice Margie Pettis.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.
