Kenneth Brewer, 81, a 47-year resident of Albany, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side.
Ken was born in Los Angeles, California, to Clyde and Bernice (Mills) Brewer. He grew up in the surrounding areas of Los Angeles, leaving behind cherished, childhood memories within the Leona Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale regions.
Ken was a Navy Veteran and served on the Aircraft carrier, USS Bon Homme Richard CV-31. After discharge in 1958, he worked for Atomics International at the Santa Susana field Laboratory near Simi Valley, California, helping to build experimental nuclear reactors.
He moved to Albany in 1970. He retired in 1997 after 27 years of employment with Duraflake in Millersburg.
Ken enjoyed participating in sport activities, namely fast pitch softball, track and field and tennis. He held position as pitcher in the 1964 ASA world softball tournament in Sunnyvale, California. Throughout his years in Albany, he dedicated much of his time coaching fast pitch softball and spectating local sports activities. His most cherished time was spending time with his grandchildren.
Ken is survived by his children and grandchildren, Kenneth and his wife Lori (Troy and Savannah), Greenwood, California; David and his wife Rochelle (Felicia, Brittany and David Jr.), Rocklin, California; Renee Brewer (Nicholas), Sacramento, California; John and his wife Jena (Tyler, Kelsey and John Jr.), Albany; and sisters Evelyn of Sacramento and Irene, Scio. Ken has seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sibling, Mark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ken’s name to FISH of Albany.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Fisher Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
