December 6, 1921 — March 2, 2018

Kathryn L. G. (Kertzman) Baugher walked into the arms of Jesus on March 2, 2018.

She was born on December 6, 1921, in Emmons County, Village of Hazelton, North Dakota, to Verna E. (Simpkins) and Peter F. Kertzman as the eldest of three daughters. Milking cows, gathering eggs, slopping pigs, herding sheep and walking 20 miles in the snow actually was a huge part of her growing up in the mid farmlands of North Dakota.

She was married to Edgar V. Baugher in 1950 in Bismarck, North Dakota, at the Presbyterian Church by Pastor Joseph Bachmann. In 1960, the couple moved their family to Oregon and enjoyed the country life and raised their family on an 11-acre farm in Summit, Oregon.

Better known as “Grandma Kakie,” she was active in all aspects of life with her children, great- and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many in the neighborhood.

Baking 20 loaves of bread each week for everyone was one of her loves. She enjoyed playing cards with her family, very rarely losing at rummy or spades.

Her other passion was in corresponding and helping to support missionaries around the world. She was a member of the Blodgett Community Church for many years until moving to live with her daughter, Geneva, in 2005. There, she was a member of the Willamina Free Methodist Church, continuing to correspond with missionaries.

She was voted “Mother of the Year” by the Women’s Ministries in 2007. In 2009, she moved to Roseburg with her daughters, Rita and Becky, and became a member of the Church on the Rise, a Church of the Nazarene.

Recently, due to health problems, she had moved to Pacific North West Care Adult Foster Home in Dallas, Oregon, where she passed peacefully in her sleep.

She lived to see the story of her life published by her children. She hoped her story entitled, “My Life” would be a witness to her family and others of how God led her ever forward in her belief of Jesus Christ our Lord and His mercy and forgiveness.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Dwight Kertzman, Geneva (Baugher) Wymore, Rita (Baugher) Johnson, Rebecca Baugher, Laura (Baugher) Cobb, Mark Baugher, and Edgar Dee Baugher; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; sister, Costello (Kertzman) Grenz.

Her husband, Edgar Baugher, her eldest son, Bryan Kertzman, and sister, LaRaine (Kertzman) Heer preceded her in death.

The family will be gathering for a private graveside service (later in the spring) at the Summit Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Pastor Gary Widrig of the Willamina Free Methodist Church.

At Kathryn’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Village Missions, P.O. Box 197, Dallas, OR 97338; or Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862; or to World Missions at the church you attend.
