He attended Albany High School and participated in football, wrestling and track. Jerry was a graduate in 1961.
Jerry then attended Linfield College in McMinnville, where he met his future wife, Kathryn E. Browne. He received his Bachelor of Science in 1965 and his Masters of Education in 1966, all from Linfield College. While attending Linfield, Jerry was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He played football and participated in track.
He was united in marriage to Kathryn Browne on Aug. 21, 1965 in Los Angeles. Following their marriage, they made their home in McMinnville until 1966 when they moved to Roseburg. Following his retirement from Gaston High School in 1996, he taught math at the University of Phoenix in Beaverton from 1998 to 2005. He was awarded the Faculty of the Year award on June 3, 2000.
Jerry was a dedicated father, having helped his wife raise their two daughters, Melanie and Monica. He coached their softball teams and was involved with many of their school and church activities.
Always living life to its fullest, Jerry enjoyed golfing, gardening and photography. Jerry participated in four marathons with his wife as well as three Portland to Coast relays.
