George Herman Ashford, 94, of Albany passed away Wednesday at Samaritan Albany General Hospi-tal.
Herman was born at home in Marion to George Butcher and Nora E. (Jarvis) Ashford. He has spent most of his life in the Albany area.
Herman served in World War II from 1943-1946. After his service he worked as foreman at Mallony Chambers Saw Mill in Albany, then as a carpenter in the Beaverton area, and eventually as Washington County building inspector until retirement.
He married Daisy Sweeter on Aug. 10, 2002, in Albany.
Herman was a member of First Church of God in Albany, Carpenter Union, and "Deadeye" member of the 97th Infantry Division Assoc.
He enjoyed fishing, duck and goose hunting, woodworking, feeding birds and growing roses.
Herman is survived by his wife, Daisy Sweeter Ashford; daughter Sherrill Ashford; daughter-in-law Dee Ashford; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was also Papa Herman to four step-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Gary Ashford; first wife Juanita Edney Ashford; second wife Frances Beemers Ashford; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 20, at AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Albany First Church of God, 1225 15th Ave. S.W., Albany. A private burial will take place at Finley-Sunset Hills in Portland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Committee at the First Church of God, Al-bany.
