Elinor Leona Vorpagel, 97, of Corvallis, formerly of West Covina, California, died Feb. 9, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Elinor was the third of eight children born to Veda Morris Gibbs. Her father, Ralph Gibbs, died when she was very young. Her mother then married John Burmeister and the family lived on a farm in southern Wisconsin for a while, until John Burmeister died.
Elinor worked as a waitress and studied bookkeeping before marrying and raising two children. After her two daughters left home, Elinor returned to work as a clerk at Mervyn's, retiring when she was 76.
She played the accordion and organ, and she loved music and singing. She was interested in health foods and exercise, and walked two miles a day until the last few months of her life.
She is survived by her daughters Becky Marie and Victoria Adele Vorpagel; sisters Jacquelyn Schueneman and Barbara Freimoth; one grandchild, Natasha Anne Vorpagel; and one great-grandchild, Camila Murcia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Otto Vorpagel; brothers Maurice Gibbs, Paul Gibbs, John Burmeister and Frances Burmeister; and sister Thelma Boelk.
