Debra McGill, 55, of Salem passed away Tuesday at her home.
She was born in Stayton to Howard and Janice (Aarnes) McGill. Debra went to school in Pasco, Wash., and then moved to Prince George, British Columbia. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the Oregon College of Education and her master’s degree at OSU. Debra went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs and then for Agripac, before moving on to mental health at the Fairview Hospital and then Marion County Mental Health.
She was a member of the New Harvest Church in Salem.
God was manifested in her life. She had a special love and compassion for people with mental challenges and dedicated her life to helping those who were disadvantaged. Debra also had a strong love for her nieces and nephews. She did not have children of her own, but was a mother figure to everyone she knew.
Debra is survived by her parents; brothers Martin Howard McGill of Whitefish, Mont., Timothy Craig McGill of West Linn and Darren McGill of Beaverton; and sister Rebecca Sprague of Bethpage, N.Y.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Riverside Baptist Church.
