As of late Tuesday afternoon, Linn County Sheriff's Office investigators were not yet able to say what led to the death of an unidentified person found Monday in a ditch on Bryant Drive, just south of Bryant Park.
Albany Fire Department personnel responded after an individual flagged them down Monday afternoon and told them about the body. Linn County Sheriff's Office deputies and detectives responded to the area.
The body has since been removed, the road between the park and Bryant Way was closed (it was reopened early Tuesday evening), and a Linn County Search and Rescue team was deployed Tuesday to find clues or evidence related to the case.
Linn County Sheriff's Lt. Michelle Duncan said the autopsy is complete, but that the medical examiner has not yet released the findings.
"We're still trying to identify the victim," she said, adding that she is not yet able to say whether the body is male or female. She did not know how long the body may have been at the site.
Duncan said she expects to be able to give a statement in coming days.
A call to the Linn County Medical Examiner was not immediately returned.
More information will be provided as details emerge.
