Students in spelling bees advance

Students from Albany schools will advance this week to a regional spelling contest after winning in their divisions at the district level competition April 22.

 The first place and second place winners from each division will represent Greater Albany Public Schools at the regional spelling contest Tuesday at Calapooia Middle School in Albany.

Winners were:

Elementary, Division I: Paige Rogers, Takena Elementary School. Placing second and third were Jackson Groch of Timber Ridge and Azlynn Warren of Lafayette.

Middle, Division II: Torin Christensen, North Albany Middle School. Placing second and third were Lane Giboney of North Albany and Charlie DeRose of Memorial.

High, Division III: Theron Benedict, South Albany High School. Placing second and third were Chance Becknal of Albany Options School and Gustavo Morales-Aparicio of South Albany High School.

This year’s district level contest is being coordinated by GAPS district teachers, volunteering their time to continue the annual competition.
