Albany school board members signed off on several new hires Monday, including three principals and two directors of curriculum.

Kraig Sproles, who is new to the district, will become principal of Liberty Elementary School this fall, succeeding Janelle Ediger, who is retiring. Sproles is currently principal of Metzger Elementary School in the Tigard-Tualatin School District and previously served as school improvement coordinator for Alice Ott Middle School in Portland.

Lisa Shogren, principal of Takena Elementary School, will now be principal of Central Elementary as well. She succeeds Heather Huzefka, who is moving to the district office full time as student services coordinator.

John Hunter, assistant principal at West Albany High School, will now be principal of Albany Options School. Principal Dan Knight is taking an administrative job in Boise, Idaho.

For curriculum directors, board members approved Lori Greenfield, currently principal of Sunrise Elementary School, as elementary curriculum director. Jason Hoffert-Hay, principal of Timber Ridge School, will be secondary curriculum director. Their former positions, and Hunter’s, will be posted for hire.

Greenfield will succeed Tonja Everest, who is becoming assistant superintendent to succeed Frank Caropelo, who has taken a job with the nonprofit Chalkboard Project. Hoffert-Hay will succeed Peggy Blair, who is retiring.
