A U.S. Postal Service mailman allegedly pushed his way into an elderly woman’s home on Tuesday afternoon, grabbed and tried to kiss the 75-year-old, and touched her in a private area, said Albany Police Department officials.

Daniel Guinn Gray, 48, of Tangent, was arrested on charges of first-degree sex abuse and first-degree burglary.

He was released from the Linn County Jail early Wednesday morning after posting $7,000 of his $70,000 bail.

Gray is scheduled to appear in court for a first appearance on Sept. 18.

Jail records list Gray as 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds.

At about 3:41 p.m., 911 received a call from the Edgewood Mobile Home Park on Mountain View Drive S.E.

The victim said that about 20 minutes earlier, the mailman knocked on the door and told her he had a delivery for her, according to police reports.

When she opened the door, he pushed his way inside, police reports said. No one else was at the residence at the time.

Capt. Eric Carter said nothing indicates there has been previous criminal activity by Gray.

A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service in Portland declined comment, including regarding the employment status of Gray.

Gray could not be reached for comment.
