LEBANON — Police arrested a Lebanon man early Sunday morning after responding to a report of an assault at Merlin's Bar & Grill.

The report came in at 2:47 a.m. at 45 W. Sherman St. Paramedics found an adult male bleeding badly from a head wound and transported Jawann Venable, 33, to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital to be treated for lacerations and other minor injuries.

An investigation led officers to take Michael Shaffer, 28, of Lebanon into custody on charges of second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Shaffer is accused of causing physical injury with a pool cue, and of injuring both Venable and a second man, Josiah Aaron Marhenke, whose age was not available.

Shaffer was arraigned Monday in Linn Circuit Court. Police are seeking more information about the incident and are asking people to call police at 541-451-1751.
