Body found near Bowman Park

Albany Police Department responded to a report of a male finding a body in a wooded area east of Bowman Park at about noon on Saturday.

“At this time, (the death) does not appear suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing,” said Sgt. Steve Dorn.

The name of the deceased was not available as next-of-kin notification had not been completed early Saturday night.

In Albany, with any case where there is a death that is unattended by a physician, specially trained police supervisors will complete an investigation with the aid of the Linn County Medical Examiner.

After those investigations, an autopsy and review by the Linn County District Attorney’s Office is completed, essentially to double check results.

Other agencies have similar protocols that are mandated by the state of Oregon.

Two homeless people died in Albany in late July and early August, and both were found near the Costco gas station, which is in close proximity to a creek and a walking path that leads to Waverly Park and other trails.
