Albany Police officers are working to identify a body that was found Monday morning southwest of the Wheelhouse at 421 Water Ave. N.E.

About 11:09 a.m, the police department received a phone call reporting an odor in the area.

“We have the body along the embankment and officers are figuring out what happened,” Captain Eric Carter said.

Carter said he did not know if the person was male or female or how the person died.

The body was found on the embankment between the Dave Clark Riverfront Path and the Willamette River.

The Linn County Medical Examiner Jennifer Schindell was at the scene, along with Linn County District Attorney Doug Marteeny.

The Dave Clark Riverfront Path was cordoned off during the investigation.
