SWEET HOME — Staff from the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to a call at 9:39 a.m. Monday that a pole barn was on fire at 27722 Riggs Hill Road on the east side of town.

The property is owned by Joyce Marvin.

Although the wood-framed metal shop was only about 15 feet away, firefighters kept flames away from the home, which was not damaged.

According to Lt. Josh Bondesen, the contents of the shop were destroyed, including an older motor home, a ski boat and a small pickup truck.

Sweet Home fire sent two tenders, two engines, a medic unit and command rig.

Brownsville Fire District also provided a tender.

No one was injured and the amount of the loss was unknown, as is the origin of the fire.

According to the Linn County Assessor’s Office, the 960-square-foot shop was constructed in 1998 and is valued at about $7,100.

Bondesen said a large fir tree between the shop and the house may have helped keep the fire from spreading between the two units.
