Baha'i devotions and discussion: "Honoring Lyn Martin: The Soaring Soul" is set for 10:30 a.m. Sunday via Zoom.

Twenty-five years ago, a band of friends initiated a weekly prayer and study group. From its beginning, this group relied on the dedicated service of Lyn Martin, who died last week. In her honor, this month’s programs will share readings related to the soul and life beyond death. “The progress of man's spirit in the divine world, after the severance of its connection with the body of dust, is through the bounty and grace of the Lord alone, or through the intercession and the sincere prayers of other human souls, or through the charities and important good works which are performed in its name.” All are welcome to participate in fellowship, readings and discussion of the life of the spirit.

Zoom instructions for the meeting and readings can be found on the local Baha'i website, Those who need help or have questions can call 541-753-5752.

Nursing program offered: Registration is open for the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course starting Nov. 15 via Zoom.

The Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course and a concurrent Foundations for Health Ministry course for lay members of faith communities is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16, Nov. 29 and 30, and Dec. 13, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 14; the final day includes a dedication ceremony.

The continuing education course is offered in partnership with Samaritan Health Services, Linn-Benton Community College Extended Learning, and the Faith Community Health Network of the Mid-Willamette Valley.

A Faith Community Nurse is not simply a registered nurse who happens to be a member of a faith community. Faith Community Nursing is a recognized nursing specialty. Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministers serve their congregations and community through advocacy; by improving health literacy, health equity and overall access to care; and by promoting spiritual, emotional and physical well-being.

The Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course prepares nurses to provide a bridge between the health care system and the faith community. Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministers work together to open conversations about health and wellness of the mind, body and spirit, and provide additional connection and support for faith community members and leaders facing the challenges of today.

The financial support of Samaritan allows the course to be offered at a reduced cost of $299, which includes three textbooks and 38 contact hours for continuing education. Registration is available by emailing
