Corvallis-OSU Symphony

This season for the Corvallis-OSU Symphony covers, as always, a lot of musical ground, from stage and screen music to Wagner.

Concerts are in the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus, 26th Street and Western Boulevard.


• Sunday, Oct. 16: "From Stage and Screen." Rossini's "William Tell" overture, OSU's Bella Voce women’s chorus; OSU's Meistersingers men's chorus; vocalist Katie Smith; Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet" overture.

• Sunday, Oct. 30: Portland Youth Philharmonic; a free concert. 

• Sunday, Nov. 20: "American and Soviet Masters," featuring violinist Jessica Lambert. Barber's Violin Concerto, Prokofiev's Symphony No. 3.

• Sunday, Dec. 4: Holiday concert, featuring OSU choruses and soloists.

• Wednesday, Feb. 22: "Alpine Journey," featuring Bruckner's Symphony No. 8.

• Tuesday, May 23: "Music Transcendent," featuring Debussy's "La Mer," R. Strauss's "Die Frau ohne Schatten Suite" and scenes from Wagner's "Götterdämmerung."

SAC Presents 

“SAC Presents,” a visual and performing arts events series sponsored by the School of Arts and Communication at Oregon State University, returns for its second season in 2016-17.

Performances are in the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus, 26th Street and Western Boulevard.


• Sunday, Oct. 2: The San Francisco-based Kronos Quartet, known for its unpredictable and electric performances of contemporary classical music. Tickets are on sale now. 

• Saturday, Feb. 11: David Sedaris, the radio humorist, comedian, bestselling author and master of satire, will give a talk followed by a book signing. Tickets go on sale Oct. 3.

• Friday, April 7: “A Call to Life: Variations on a Theme of Extinction,” featuring Rachelle McCabe, music professor and OSU director of piano studies, and OSU philosophy Professor Emeritus Kathleen Dean Moore in a music and spoken word program on species extinction. This program is free.

• Friday, April 14: The Northwest Dance Project of Portland will present a program of original, contemporary dance works.

• Wednesday, May 24: Boston Brass offers a blend of jazz standards, brass quintet repertoire and the ensemble's own take on classical arrangements.

Chamber Music Corvallis

The performance series settles in for its second season at First United Methodist Church with a lineup of five concerts.

Performances are at the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary, 1165 N.W. Monroe Ave., Corvallis.


• Friday, Oct. 7: Akropolis Wind Quartet. Works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Marc Mellits, David Biedenbender and George Gershwin.

• Friday, Nov. 4: Telegraph Quartet. Works by Haydn, Dvorak, Beethoven.

• Friday, Jan. 27: WindSync. Works by Mendelssohn, Schoenberg, Radiohead, Stravinsky, Prokofief, Bernstein.

• Friday, Feb. 24: Tesla Quartet. Works by Mozart, Kevin Puts and Sibelius.

• Friday, March 31: Gould Piano Trio with Robert Plane, clarinet. Works by Beethoven, Zemlinsky, Korngold and Brahms.

Corvallis Repertory Singers

This award-winning ensemble, under the direction of Oregon State University's Steven Zielke, has three concerts scheduled for the 2016-17 season. 


• Saturday, Nov. 12: "Letters from the Front," featuring "Mass in Time of War" and other selections. At the First United Methodist Church, 1165 N.W. Monroe Ave., Corvallis.

• Saturday, Dec. 17: "Candlelight & Carols," featuring "Amahl and the Night Visitors" and selected carols. At the First United Methodist Church in Corvallis.

• Thursday, April 20: David Maslanka's Mass, with the OSU Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir. This performance is at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus, 26th Street and Western Boulevard.

Willamette Valley Symphony

The orchestra, under the direction of Sean Paul Mills, is celebrating its 10th season.

In general, Saturday concerts are at First United Methodist Church, 1115 28th Ave. S.W. in Albany. Sunday concerts are Ashbrook Independent School, 4045 S.W. Research Way in Corvallis.
