BANDON — The Oregon State men’s golf team finished in third place at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Tuesday for its fourth top-5 placing of the season.
The Beavers concluded the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a 6-under 286-288-284—858 at the par-72, 6,893-yard Old MacDonald Course to finish third in the 16-team field.
Oregon took the team title with a 28-under 836 and Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech went wire-to-wire to claim medalist honors with a 10-under 206.
OSU finished ahead of three teams ranked among the top 25 in the nation — No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 21 Colorado and No. 23 Auburn — and only a stroke back of No. 11 Texas Tech, which posted a 7-under 857.
The Beavers have now recorded top-5 finishes in four of their seven tournaments this season — second at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, third at the Bandon Dunes Championship, and fifth at The Jackrabbit and Duck Commander Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Trevor Yu led the Beavers with a career-best tie for ninth place finish after posting a 4-under 70-72-70—212. His previous best finish was a tie for 13th place at last year’s Bandon Dunes Championship.
Senior Calum Hill had a solid and consistent tournament, finishing in 16th place with an even-par 72-71-73—216.
Junior Jonas Liebich and freshman Shawn Lu each finished in a tie for 20th place with a 2-over 218, as Liebich posted scores of 70-74-74 and Lu went low in the final two rounds to finish at 76-71-71.
Senior Kevin Murphy had his best round of the tournament on the final day to move into a tie for 30th place with a 4-over 74-76-70—220.
The Beavers have two weeks off before competing at the Duck Invitational in Eugene.
