A PEEK INSIDE THE NEW ABC HOUSE

A fish tank, which is part of the ABC House's ocean-themed interior design, rests on a pedestal in front of receptionist Itamar Jimenez, far right, plus Deannna Hubele, left, and Michele Roberts.

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting for the new ABC House, located at 228 Fifth Ave. SW in Albany, will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Executive director Jennifer Gilmore-Robinson said the ribbon cutting will take place shortly after 3:30. The building is directly south of the Linn County Courthouse.

Guest speakers will include Gilmore-Robinson, board chair Jason Yutze and capital campaign co-chair Ralph Scariano. There will be refreshments and self-guided tours of the two-story building.

The event celebrates the year-long project that converted the former bank building into an 11,000-square-foot facility that provides services to abused children in Linn and Benton counties.

The new building is part of a $5.1 million campaign that will include expanding staff from 14 to 22 over the next three years to increase the number of children served. Gerding Builders was in charge of construction.
