A few months ago, Albany Municipal Court Judge Robert Scott told City Manager Peter Troedsson in confidence that he planned to retire at the end of 2019.
“Unfortunately, my golf buddies and wife haven’t kept it in quite as much confidence,” Scott told the City Council during Monday night’s work session.
Scott gave the council an annual report on the court Monday night, and opened his presentation with the announcement he would be retiring Dec. 31, 2019.
The judge told the council that he had been planning to announce his retirement before the end of the fiscal year but had decided to move his timetable up after a conversation he had earlier in the week.
“I had a former police officer come by the house to drink a beer or two and he said, ‘I heard you were retiring.’ So, this seems better to announce it while you’re all here rather than having you hear it through rumor,” he said.
Scott thanked the council for allowing him to serve as the municipal court judge — a position he’s held since March 2009.
