Brian Jones, an actor and activist from Los Angeles, talks to a group of participants in OSU's Diversity Summit Thursday afternoon in LaSells Stewart Center. Jones lead a workshop on class and had his group act out scenes from newspaper articles to illustrate class differences.

Angel Flight pilot Derrick Teal helps 10-year-old Moemedi Thomas Maphanyane in to his plane for the first leg of his flight to Palo Alto, California. Maphanyane suffered from renal failure and was flying to Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital so doctors could determine how serious his illness was.

Dee Wendel stands on the floor above Footwise, about a third of which has been renovated to accommodate the businesses' growing need for office space. Wendel said she hopes to have a long-term tenant in the remaining upstairs section of the business soon. Gordy Roseboro of Eugene Sign and Awning attaches one of the awnings to its frame on the Harding Building at the corner of Third Street and Madison Avenue. The building, which primarily houses Footwise — The Birkinstock Store, is owned by Dee and Peter Wendel who are just finishing a major facelift for the two-story downtown structure.

Helicopter Transport Services Inc. plans to have three Sikorsky Sky Crane like this one operating out of April. Company vice president Mike Aslaksen says the company will have four helicopters based in Corvallis which will be used for primarily used for fighting forest fires.

Highland View Middle School teacher Amanda Hoffman works with eighth-grader Alex Wheeler in Hoffman's Learning Resource Center Study Skills class Thursday morning. The district announced in its plans for the 2001-02 budget that schools with special needs -- such as Highland's special education classes -- will receive more money in next year's budget.

Kids play post office in a tree during a dry cool day in February 2001. The girls used buckets attached by bungee cords for their deliveries. Amanda Prentiss, 10, in pink, Avery Kadas, 9, in orange, Laurel Kadas, 7, in purple, and Merissa Prentiss, 5, in green.

Junior Girl Scouts from troop 83 yell at passing motorist to buy cookies Wednesday near the corner of 29th and Harrison in Corvallis. The girls sold a few boxes Wednesday, and will be back out Thursday looking for more sales.

Alice Rampton, left, and Sabra Killen have photos of 116 children in a Ukrainian orphanage near Corvallis' sister city, Uzhgorod. They are trying to collect sponsorships for each of the children to buy clothes and personal items for them.

Haley Thompson, 11, nuzzles with her llama Icicle before her llama walk with her 4-H club, the Llamateers, at Bald Hill Park in Corvallis. The club would get together once a month to walk the llamas to let them get used to being around humans, bikes, and dogs.

Oregon State University distinguished professor of art Henry Sayre says that the innovative interdisciplinary plan at the OSU branch campus in Bend is so exciting he is considering a move to Bend to be a part of it.
