West Albany High’s Bailey Backer received honorable mention when the 6A all-state volleyball teams were released Thursday.
Backer, a senior setter, was a first-team all-Greater Valley Conference pick.
The Bulldogs reached the state round of 16 and finished 20-7 overall in their final season at the 6A level. West will rejoin the 5A Mid-Willamette Conference for the 2018-22 time block.
The all-state teams are determined by a vote of the classification’s coaches.
Southridge’s Carol Lambert was named 6A coach of the year. The players of the year for all classifications will be released at a later date.
Whitebird receives honorable mention
Lebanon junior Cheyenne Whitebird was a 5A all-state honorable mention recipient.
Whitebird, a right side hitter, was a first-team all-MWC selection as the Warriors finished 15-8 overall. Lebanon made it to the state tournament for the sixth consecutive year, placing fifth overall.
North Eugene’s Dave Merrill won 5A coach of the year honors.
Sweet Home’s Tow honored
Ally Tow, a Sweet Home senior, was voted 4A second-team all-state.
Tow helped the Huskies reach the state round of 16 and compile a 15-5 overall record. Last month, Tow was named first-team all-Sky-Em League.
Rosie Honl of Crook County was 4A’s coach of the year.
