SALEM — Oreon Courtney had 17 points and Cassius McGinty added 14 as the West Albany High boys basketball team cruised to a 77-47 Greater Valley Conference win on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs trailed 17-14 after the first quarter but used a 29-10 edge in the second to take control and limited the Vikings to a single point in the third.
West Albany High stretched its winning streak to four games in a row.
The Bulldogs (6-4, 1-2) resume GVC action on Friday when they host Forest Grove.
South Albany 66, North Marion 46
The Rebels concluded nonleague action with a convincing win over the 4A Huskies. South Albany (7-3) opens Mid-Willamette Conference action against Woodburn on Jan. 9.
St. Paul 69, Central Linn 40
HALSEY — The Cobras dropped their Tri-River Conference opener to St. Paul. Central Linn (1-8) resumes league play at Santiam on Thursday.
West Albany jumped out to an 20-9 first-quarter lead and cruised from there in a 69-48 victory over North Salem in a Great Valley Conference game at WAHS.
Molly Hendrix had 17 points, Maddy Rice 10 to lead the Bulldogs (6-4, 2-1), who had 13 players score.
West plays at Central on Wednesday night.
North Marion 61, South Albany 39
AURORA — Katie Mayhue scored 22 points but the Rebels fell in the road in nonconference action.
South managed just five points in the first quarter and never recovered.
The Rebels (3-6) host Roseburg on Thursday.
Yamhill-Carlton 65, Sweet Home 21
SWEET HOME — Yamhill-Carlton handled the Huskies in their penultimate nonconference game.
Sweet Home (1-10) ends nonconference action at Crook County on Friday. It begins Sky-Em League action against Sutherlin on Jan. 12.
Kennedy 51, East Linn Christian 11
LEBANON — Kennedy topped the Eagles in their Tri-River Conference opener. ELC resumes TRC action at Western Mennonite on Friday.
St. Paul 43, Central Linn 33
HALSEY — Central Linn dropped its Tri-River Conference opener to visiting St. Paul. The Cobras (5-4, 0-1) resume conference play on Thursday at Santiam.
SALEM — West Albany split a Greater Valley Conference dual at Sprague. The girls won 115-48 but the boys lost 96-71.
Bailey Dickerson won the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly and Eve Vetter doubled in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM to lead the girls. Kieran Van Horsen won the 100 free and Dylan Hayes won the 500 free to lead the boys.
