The West Albany High volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a tough 3-2 victory over South Salem in a Greater Valley Conference match. Set scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-9, 23-25, 15-10.
"Coming in we knew Senior Night can be emotional so we focused on the task at hand and made it happen against a very good team," West coach Kelli Backer said. "I am so proud of my team."
Seniors Jacquelyn Clark had 21 kills and four blocks and Bailey Backer had 32 assists and an ace in their final home game. Sydney Backer added 39 digs, Lindsey Stewart had 17 digs and 11 kills and Alexis Chapman had 12 kills.
West (17-6, 12-2) plays at North Salem on Tuesday.
Jefferson 3, Gervais 0
JEFFERSON — Jefferson swept Gervais in a PacWest Conference volleyball match at JHS. Set scores were 25-12, 25-17,25-19.
Suris Santos had 16 digs, 10 assists, six kills and two aces to lead Jefferson. Amanda Bruce added 27 digs and eight kills and Cassie Aguilar had 15 digs and seven kills.
Jefferson (12-7, 6-5) concludes the regular season at Salem Academy on Tuesday.
Silverton 3, Lebanon 1
SILVERTON — Silverton took the Mid-Willamette Conference match from the Warriors, 16-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-22. Lebanon (11-6, 9-3) resumes MWC action at South Albany on Tuesday.
Crescent Valley 3, South Albany 0
CORVALLIS — The Raiders celebrated Senior Night by defeating South Albany 25-15, 25-17, 25-12 in a Mid-Willamette Valley match.
South (3-14, 2-10) plays host to Lebanon on Tuesday in its next MWC match.
Scio 3, Blanchet Catholic 1
SCIO — The Loggers won the final two sets to take the PacWest Conference match. Set scores were 26-24, 11-25, 25-11, 25-19.
Aspen Schudel had 16 kills and 15 digs, Katelyn Gray had 11 kills and three blocks, Makenna Cooper had 19 digs and McKenzie Reger had 22 assists for Scio.
The Loggers (13-5, 8-3) conclude the regular season by hosting Chemewa in a PWC match on Oct. 19.
LEBANON — The Warriors crushed Central 7-1 in a Mid-Willamette Conference game for their second win in a row. Lebanon (6-4-0, 3-1-0) plays at Silverton on Tuesday in its next game.
Corvallis 8, South Albany 0
Corvallis stretched its winning streak to three in a row by topping South Albany in the Mid-Willamette Conference game at SAHS.
Aja Bumpus scored three goals, Wendy Hare two and Heather Wright, Joanna Bomber and Sara Matsuba one each for CHS.
The Spartans (5-4-1, 3-1-0) play a nonleague game at Mountain View at 11 a.m. Saturday. South (2-6-1, 1-2-1) plays at Crescent Valley on Tuesday.
INDEPENDENCE — Central handled Lebanon 13-0 in a Mid-Willamette Conference game. The Warriors (0-9-1, 0-4-0) host Silverton on Tuesday in their next start.
CORVALLIS — Lebanon was fourth in boys and girls team scoring in a five-school meet Wednesday at Crescent Valley.
Hannah Mason was third in the girls race, finishing the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 19 minute, 1 seconds. The Warriors were racing without number-two runner Isabella Ayala.
The Lebanon boys were led by Mathew Meckley (16:54) in fifth place.
Harrisburg was fifth in both races, led by Emmily Cheek (15th, 21:11) on the girls side and Caleb Kelson (19th, 17:52) on the boys.
