South Albany High opened the Mid-Willamette Conference season with a 77-60 victory over Woodburn on Tuesday at SAHS.
It was the second victory in a row for the Rebels, who are also 3-1 in their last four games. The Rebels (8-3, 1-0) resume MWC action at Lebanon on Thursday.
Central 49, Lebanon 45
INDEPENDENCE — Lebanon battled Central to the wire in its Mid-Willamette Conference opener but lost its 10th game in a row.
The Warriors (1-10, 0-1) host South Albany on Thursday in their next MWC contest.
Jefferson 54, Scio 50
SCIO — Jefferson snapped a two-game losing streak by way of a narrow victory against Scio.
The Lions (7-8, 1-2) take on Chemawa on Friday.
The Loggers (4-10, 1-2) travel to Colton on Thursday.
LEBANON — Lebanon High School lost its first game of the season when it fell to No. 1-ranked Central 41-30 in the Mid-Willamette Conference opener for both teams at LHS.
Ellie Croco led the Warriors with 13 points.
"We got all ramped up for the big game," and were too fired up, coach Mardy Benedict said. "We got the looks we wanted but our shots didn't fall and we started pressing a little bit."
The Warriors (9-1, 0-1) will attempt to even their MWC slate on Friday at South Albany.
McMinnville 66, West Albany 44
McMINNVILLE — The host Grizzlies handled West Albany in the Greater Valley Conference game at MHS.
West (6-7, 0-2) visits West Salem on Friday in its next conference game.
Central Linn 46, E. Linn Christian 25
HALSEY — Central Linn held off East Linn Christian in the Tri-River Conference game at CLHS.
Central Linn (7-5, 2-2) resumes league play at Lowell on Wednesday. ELC returns to league action on Friday when it hosts Santiam.
Jefferson 32, Scio 31
SCIO — Jefferson held on to defeat Scio to earn its sixth win in seven games.
The Lions (11-3, 2-1) host Chemawa and the Loggers (2-11, 0-3) travel to Colton on Thursday.
South Albany 48, Woodburn 27
WOODBURN — South Albany opened league play with a big win over Woodburn to extend its winning streak to two games. It was the Mid-Willamette Conference opener for the Rebels.
The Rebels (5-6, 1-0) host Lebanon on Friday.
Coquille 45, Harrisburg 32
COQUILLE — Harrisburg couldn't keep pace with Coquille as the Eagles saw their two game win streak snapped.
The Eagles (8-9, 1-1) take on Pleasant Hill on Friday.
LEBANON — Lebanon hosted South Albany in a Mid-Willamette Conference dual meet at the Lebanon Community Swim Club. Team scores were not available.
In the girls meets, South Albany's Chiara Roskelley (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly) and Lebanon's Elizabeth Beck (100 backstroke, 200 freestyle) each won two events.
In the boys meet, South Albany's Nathanial Young won the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle.
HARRISBURG — Jefferson defeated Harrisburg 36-28 and Pleasant Hill 40-21 in duals. Jefferson (7-3, 2-0) competes at the Oregon Classic in Redmond this Friday and Saturday.
Santiam Christian competed against Harrisbsurg and Pleasant Hill in two duals but no team scores were kept. Vandon Haugen (152) won twice for SC.
