SWEET HOME — Wrestling in its home gym, Sweet Home High topped the eight-team field at Friday’s Linn County Championships.
The Huskies finished with 258 points to win the annual tournament. Lebanon placed second with 195 points, followed by West Albany (174), Scio (165), Harrisburg (116), Central Linn (115), South Albany (107.5) and Santiam (47).
Sweet Home’s Robbie Yunke (132 pounds), Travis Thorpe (138), Ricky Yunke (152) and Nich James (170) all captured individual titles.
Harrisburg had three champions: Russell Talmadge (106), Chance Hendrickson (126) and Dax Bennett (182).
In one of the top matchups of the evening, Lebanon’s Chase Miller earned a 5-1 decision over West Albany’s Mitchell Sorte for the 160 championship.
Lebanon teammates Wyatt Richardson (120) and Keith Brown (195) topped their respective brackets. Other champions included West’s Caleb Hart (113) and Sawyer Myres (145), South Albany’s Angel Huerta (220) and Scio’s Jacob Lowther (285).
SALEM — Kieran Van Horsen and Eric Fromiller each won two events to help lead the West Albany boys swim team to a 98-72 win over West Salem in a Greater Valley Conference dual on Friday.
Van Horsen won the 200 IM and 100 free and Fromiller the 50 free and 100 back. Braxton Reece (100 fly) and Jaxon Shufelberger (100 breast) also won individual events while the Bulldogs won two of three relays.
Eve Vetter (200 IM, 100 fly) and Bailey Dickerson (50 free, 100 back) won two individual events to help the girls take a 95-75 victory.
Taylor Kelley won the 100 free and Natalie bass the 100 breast as the Bulldogs also won two relays.
