HARRISBURG — The Harrisburg High softball team blanked La Pine 6-0 in a Mountain Valley Conference playoff game on Wednesday to clinch a berth in the 3A state playoffs.
Harrisburg was the No. 2 seed, La Pine the No. 3 seed. It was Harrisburg's fourth win of the year over Pa Line.
Haley Brooks had a three-run homer and Taytum Hughes added a solo homer for Harrisburg. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Eagles (19-6), who play at top-seeded Glide on Friday for the conference championship.
Marist Catholic 8, West Albany 7 (8)
EUGENE — Marist scored twice in the last of the eighth to win the nonference matchup.
The 5A Spartans parlayed four West errors into five unearned runs. West tied the game 6-6 in the seventh on a solo homer by Hailey Davis, then went ahead 7-6 in the eighth on three straight singles by Riley Ramirez, Lizzy Johnson and McKenzie Kosmicki.
However, a two-run, two-out single in the home half of the eighth gave Marist the win. West committed a fielding error with two outs that would have ended the game.
April Kingry was 2 for 4 with a two-run homer; Kosmicki was 3 for 5; Davis was 2 for 4; and Mahayla Gamble was 2 for 4 for the Bulldogs.
The Greater Valley Conference champion, West begins the 6A playoffs at 5 p.m. Monday by hosting Canby, which took third in the Three Rivers League.
Central Linn 6, Western Mennonite 1
HALSEY — The Cobras bounced back from a loss to Kennedy by topping Western Mennonite in the Special District 2 game.
Jamey Buckridge was 3 for 4, Payton Holt was 2 for 4 with a double and Kokoro Izumi pitched a complete-game three-hitter, with four strikeouts to lead the Cobras.
Central Linn (20-2, 15-2) concludes Special District 2 and regular-season action at Regis on Friday.
Blanchet Catholoic 13, Jefferson 5
SALEM — Third-seeded Blanchet Catholic eliminated fourth-seeded Jefferson from the PacWest Conference playoffs with the victory. The Lions (12-10) finished their season.
Amity 13, Santiam Christian 10
AMITY — Santiam Christian's season ended when the fourth-seeded Eagles fell to third-seeded Amity in a West Valley League playoff game.
Shea Carley was 3 for 4 with a double, Aliyah Atkins had two doubles, Carolyn Wilfong had two singles and Lauryn Penner was 2 for 3 with a double for SC.
It was Amity's third win of the spring over the Eagles (11-10), who had won two in a row heading into the playoffs.
Philomath 11, Lebanon 1
LEBANON — Philomath topped Lebanon in a nonleague game stopped after six innings by the 10-run rule. Lebanon (11-15) has a 5A play-in game at home Friday against Churchill.
PLEASANT HILL — Third-seeded Harrisburg fell to second-seeded Pleasant Hill 7-2 in a Mountain Valley Conference playoff game. The Eagles finished the season at 7-17.
The West Albany boys defeated McNary 9-7 on Tuesday in a North Valley League playoff game to take third place.
Goalie Carter Chamberlain had 18 saves and Zach Cisneros, Blaine Kuhnert, Hunter Williams, Nick Renyer, John Koltvedt and AJ Valdez scored. Diego Ramirez and Mason Wakefield had assists.
West (9-7) will play Roseburg on Monday in the Cascade Cup tournament.
