TURNER — Runners from East Linn Christian Academy took first place in the boys and girls races on Thursday at the Darrel Deedon Cascade Invitational cross-country meet.
Jedaiah Wasson captured the 5,000-meter boys race in 16 minutes 24 seconds, leading the Eagles to a second-place finish behind Stayton. Teammate Rheett Osborne was seventh in 17:57 and Christian Strawn was ninth in 18:17.
Sweet Home placed fourth and Harrisburg fifth in the boys race. Tanner Sayers led the Huskies with a fourth-place finish in 17:12; Austin Brock took 16th in 19:25 to lead Harrisburg.
ELCA’s Taylor Bardell won the 3,000-meter girls competition in 22:13; teammate Alison Bowler was ninth in 25:33. ELCA did not field a complete team.
Emmily Cheek paced Harrisburg with a third-place finish in 22:54; the Eagles placed also placed third in the team competition. Sweet Home’s Jessy Hart was sixth in 24:24 and Jefferson’s Kira Sabin was 10th in 25:36.
LEBANON — East Linn Christian opened its 3A/2A/1A Special District 3 season with a 5-0 home win over Central Linn. The Eagles (1-0-2 all, 1-0-0 SD3) led 3-0 at halftime and added two insurance goals in the second half to spoil Central Linn’s (0-1-0, 0-1-0 SD3) season opener.
ELC resumes league play by hosting Santiam Christian on Sept. 14. Central Linn travels to Lincoln City on Friday for a nonleague match against the Taft junior varsity.
South Albany 3, North Salem 0
ALBANY — The Rebels blanked the 6A Vikings in the nonleague matchup to notch their second win in a row.
South (2-1-0) faces 6A opposition again when it visits West Albany at 7 p.m. Monday in its next game.

LEBANON — The 6A Celtics broke open a close game with three second-half goals to hand the 5A Warriors their third nonleague loss in a row.
Lebanon (0-3-0) resumes nonleague play at Sandy on Tuesday.

WINSTON — Sweet Home dropped its season opener by falling to the Trojans in a non-league game.
The Huskies (0-1-0) resume nonleague play at Newport on Tuesday.
ADAIR VILLAGE — Visiting Pleasant Hill scored once in each half to defeat Santiam Christian in the Eagles’ 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 opener.
"We played very well, the girls battled," SC coach Wendi Farris said. "We had some good looks at the goal, we just couldn't get anything to go in.
"Keeper Kalli Ropp had some fantastic stops and had five saves. Pleasant Hill just played a little better but we will learn from this."
SC (1-1-0 all, 0-1-0 SD4) resumes league play at LaPine on Tuesday.
Lebanon 8, McKay 1
LEBANON — The Warriors scored four goals in each half in the convincing win over the 6A Royal Scots.
Lebanon (2-1) resumes nonleague play against 6A opposition on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at West Albany.
West Albany slipped up in the third set but came back to defeat visiting Forest Grove 3-1 in a Greater Valley Conference match.
Set scores were 25-14, 25-15, 16-25, 25-19.
“Forest Grove stepped up their play in the third set and they refused to lose,” West coach Kelli Backer said. “It was really nice to see us respond to that in the fourth set.”
Jacquelyn Clark led the Bulldogs with 13 kills while Alexis Chapman added eight kills and two blocks. Bailey Backer (22 assists) and Sydney Backer (25 digs) also had big nights.
West (3-2) will compete at the Central Catholic Tournament in Salem on Saturday.

JEFFERSON — Jefferson dropped to 1-1 in PacWest Conference action and to 4-1 overall by falling to Blanchet Catholic 25-20, 25-13, 25-14.
Cassie Aguilar had nine digs and five kills and Taylor Campbell had five kills, five digs and four blocks for the Lions, who travel to Rockaway Beach for the Neah-Kah-Nie Tournament.

ADAIR VILLAGE — The Eagles swept Horizon Christian in the West Valley League match. Set scores were 25-16, 25-15, 25-16.

MT. ANGEL — Central Linn dropped its first sets of the season but stayed unbeaten with a come-from-behind, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-7 win over Kennedy in a Tri-River Conference battle.
The Cobras (4-0 all, 2-0 TRC) play at the Reedsport Invitational on Saturday.
