The No. 10 West Albany High softball team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to No. 5 Oregon City at home on Tuesday.

Mahayla Gamble gave up six hits, including back-to-back doubles in the sixth, and had 11 strikeouts to suffer the loss.

The Bulldogs (20-6) head to 5A Marist Catholic on Wednesday before opening the 6A playoffs at home against Canby at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Scio 14, Taft 4

SCIO — The Loggers scored in double figures for the seventh straight time and improved to 23-2 overall with the win in five innings.

Scio has won 21 straight and will head to Rainier for a nonconference game on Wednesday. The Loggers are No. 1 in the 3A rankings and Rainier No. 3.

Santiam Christian 3, Monroe 2

MONROE — Santiam Christian edged Monroe in a nonleague game. The Eagles (11-9) will play at Amity in a West Valley League playoff game on Wednesday.

Kennedy 7, Central Linn 1

MOUNT ANGEL — No. 3 Central Linn dropped just its second game of the season, with both coming to No. 1 Kennedy in Tri-River Conference action.

The Cobras fell 3-2 in the first meeting.

Central Linn (19-2, 14-2) hosts Western Mennonite on Wednesday and travels to Regis on Friday.

Baseball

MONROE — The Santiam Christian baseball team picked up its third straight shutout with an 8-0 win at Monroe.

Sam Barton pitched allowed four hits in going the distance on the mound. Ryan Hall went 3 for 5 and SC had 13 hits. Barton and Ben Galceran had two RBI's each.

The Eagles (17-8) will travel to Taft for a West Valley League playoff game on Thursday.

Jefferson 10, Colton 1

COLTON — Jefferson picked up the PacWest Conference playoff win on the road.

The Lions (8-12) will travel to Blanchet Catholic on Thursday in another playoff game.

REDMOND — Sweet Home freshman Brayden Keesee finished 34th and senior Jake Hindermarsh 36th as the Huskies finished 11th as a team at the OSAA 4A boys state golf tournament at Eagle Crest Ridge Course.

Keesee went 85-94 for a 36-hole total 179 while Hindermarsh had an 89-92—181. Seth Wright went 105-105—210 and Carson Smith 112-98—210 to tie for 50th.

As a team, the Huskies had a 380-389—769. Valley Catholic won with a 317-313—630.

Girls golf

BANKS — Sweet Home’s Haley May, competing as an individual, tied for 12th place at the OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A tournament at Quail Valley Golf Course with an 89-86—175.

5A

CORVALLIS — South Albany’s Jessica Armfield, competing as an individual, had a 97-98—195 to finish in a tie for 22nd at the 5A tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

6A

CORVALLIS — West Albany’s Anna Schweitzer, competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 23rd with an 85-76—161 at the 6A tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

Schweitzer moved up 14 places from Monday and had a career-best 76 on Tuesday, eight strokes better than her previous low.

"Anna was incredible today," coach Matt Boase said. "She hit the ball solidly with outstanding consistency and she made some impressive putts.

"... It was such a great experience for her today, and she impressed me so much. To play that well when the wind was strong and the pressure was on made her coaches feel very proud to have her representing West Albany at the state tournament."
