WILLAMINA — Santiam Christian edged Willamina 40-36 Tuesday night for a West Valley League girls basketball road win.
Rebeka Preston had 16 points for the Eagles (12-5, 6-2), who hosts Taft on Friday.
Blanchet 53, Scio 41
SCIO — The Loggers battled Blanchet through three quarters before the visitors pulled away for the win.
“We played much better than the first time,” said coach Jim White.
Courtney Tharp was tasked with defending Blanchet’s high scoring Sophia Poole. Tharp limited Poole to just 3 points.
“The team played great defense,” White said.
White added that he was proud of the way the Loggers are playing. “I’m excited for the next few games and for the future of this program.”
The Loggers (9-9, 4-3 PacWest Conference) play at Gervais on Friday.
Blanchet won the JV game.
Gervais 31, Jefferson 22
JEFFERSON — The Lions struggled from the field and the line in the PacWest Conference loss.
Jefferson (4-14, 2-5) managed six points in the first half. The Lions did score 11 in the third but went cold in the fourth.
"It was kind of a poor shooting night for us," Jefferson coach Nick Plotts said. "A lack of aggressiveness on our part didn't help and we got down early with some turnovers."
The Lions made just 6 of 17 free throws. That proved to be costly in the second half.
"You've got to make your free throws and we didn't," Plotts said.
Jefferson hosts Salem Academy on Friday.
Central Linn 42, Chemawa 26
HALSEY — Central Linn started slow but built up an 8 point half time lead before pulling away from visiting Chemawa.
The Cobras managed only 2 points in the opening quarter.
“We were getting good looks. The ball just didn’t go in,” said coach Marcus Campbell.
In the second quarter, Central Linn was able to use their press and make the game more up tempo to give themselves a bit of breathing room.
Campbell called the win a “Get right game.”
He was able to get a lot of girls into the game while continuing to rest several injured players.
Central Linn is 11-8 overall and 1-5 in Tri-River Conference play.
The Cobras travel to Western Mennonite on Friday.
Elmira 57, Sweet Home 17
ELMIRA — Sweet Home lost the Sky-Em League road game.
The Huskies (3-11, 0-4) play at Cottage Grove on Friday.
Regis 35, East Linn Christian 25
LEBANON — The Eagles too the loss in the Tri-River Conference game.
East Linn (9-8, 2-5) goes to St. Paul on Friday.
Pleasant Hill 49, Harrisburg 24
HARRISBURG— The Eagles dropped a rough game at home against Pleasant Hill.
Stephanie Pelkey had 11 points for Harrisburg (3-15, 0-8 Mountain Valley Conference), which plays at Creswell on Thursday.
