Men’s track and field
Idaho’s Zack Short (Lebanon) placed second in the shot put (56 feet, 8½ inches) and sixth in the discus (159-11) last weekend at the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis.
Competing for Western Oregon, A.J. Holmberg (Scio) placed fourth in section 2 of the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 53.22 seconds. Teammate Trey Reed (Scio) finished 18th in the 400 at 52.4.
Air Force’s Jake LaCoste (West Albany) tied for seventh in the high jump (6-3¼) and finished 12th in the long jump (19-8¾) Friday at the 7220 Invitational in Laramie, Wyoming.
Oregon Tech’s Josiah Stroup (Lebanon) won the 400 (49.56) and ran a leg on the Owls’ 4X100 relay team that placed first in 42.20 Friday at the Pacific Twilight in Forest Grove. Teammate Alexander Turkins (South Albany) took sixth in the hammer (135-04) and 14th in the discus (121-01).
At the OSU High Performance Meet, Stroup helped Oregon Tech’s 4X400 relay team finished second in 3:19.01.
Women’s track and field
Mackenzie Wilson (East Linn Christian) ran the first leg for Corban’s 4X100 relay team that placed third in 48.45 at the OSU High Performance meet.
Competing for Western Oregon, Nicole Niskanen (South Albany) finished 15th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.63.
Competing for George Fox, Victoria Schroeder (Santiam Christian) tied for 10th in the high jump at 5-1¾.
Clackamas’ McKenna Tanselli (Lebanon) finished fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 13:01.39 at the Pacific Twilight.
Kelsey Broadus (West Albany) allowed just one run on one hit with four strikeouts and a walk in 3⅔ innings of relief Sunday in Boise State’s 5-2 home loss to Fresno State.
Saturday, Broadus tossed a four-hit shutout with a walk and eight strikeouts in an 8-0, six-inning victory over Fresno State.
Cheyanne Rimer (Scio) went a combined 4 for 7 with two runs scored Sunday as Western Oregon swept a home doubleheader with Western Washington in Monmouth.
Saturday, Rimer went a combined 1 for 5 with a run scored in a home split with Simon Fraser.
Kaylee Buhrkuhl (Santiam Christian) went a combined 2 for 6 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored Saturday as Corban split a road doubleheader with Carroll College in Helena, Montana.
Emily Marchbanks (Sweet Home) pitched the final seven innings and allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks Friday as Newberry dropped a 5-4, eight-inning decision to Queens at the South Atlantic Conference Championship in Anderson, South Carolina.
Hannah Yelas (Santiam Christian) went a combined 0 for 5 at the plate as Northwest lost both legs of a home doubleheader with Oregon Tech in Bothell, Washington. She pitched all seven innings in the first game, giving up six runs on five hits with four walks and no strikeouts.
Friday, she went a combined 1 for 4 at the plate in a pair of losses. Yelas pitched the first game and gave up 10 runs on 13 hits.
Kennedy Jantzi (West Albany) went a combined 1 for 5 with a solo home run Saturday as Mt. Hood was swept in a home doubleheader by Lower Columbia in Gresham.
Josh Gerig (East Linn Christian) went 1 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored Saturday in Howard Payne’s 12-9 home loss to Louisiana College in Brownwood, Texas.
Friday, Gerig went a combined 2 for 6 with two walks and a run scored in a split with Louisiana College.
Jackson Soto (West Albany) went 0 for 3 with a walk Tuesday in Lane’s 5-4 loss at Chemeketa in Salem.
Monday, Soto went a combined 4 for 9 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored in a road sweep of Clackamas in Oregon City.
Alex Pynes (West Albany) went 0 for 2 last Thursday in Shasta’s 6-5 loss to Butte in Redding, California.
Jacob Miller (West Albany) allowed seven runs (three earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 4⅓ innings last Wednesday in Feather River’s 25-8 victory at Siskiyous in Weed, California.
