Men’s track and field

A.J. Holmberg (Scio) ran the 800-meter portion for Western Oregon’s distance medley relay team that repeated as national champions with a time of 9 minutes, 41.4 seconds at last weekend’s NCAA Division II Championships in Pittsburgh, Kansas.

Holmberg is a senior.


George Fox’s Nicholas Armour (Santiam Christian) placed 10th in the long jump (19 feet, ¾ inches), 14th in the 200 (23.54) and 23rd in the 100 (11.81) Saturday at the Pacific Preview in Forest Grove.

Women’s track and field

George Fox’s Tahnisha Manibusan (South Albany) placed third in the discus (116-6) and sixth in the hammer (105-7) at the Pacific Preview.


Corban’s MacKenzie Wilson (East Linn Christian) won the 200 (26.57) and placed second in the 100 (13.17) Saturday at the Mt. Hood Invitational in Gresham.

Men’s golf

Corban’s Josh Goins (Lebanon) tied for eighth with a three-round 76-74-76—226 last weekend at the Oregon Tech Spring Invitational in Eagle Point.

Men’s basketball

Nate Sherwood (West Albany) had seven points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal last Thursday in Idaho’s 92-78 loss to Southern Utah in the Big Sky tournament quarterfinals in Reno, Nevada. Teammate Chad Sherwood (West Albany) added five points, two rebounds and two assists.

The Vandals finished 22-9 overall and chose to not pursuit a postseason opportunity.


Cooper Getsfrid (West Albany) had 15 points, two rebounds and an assist Sunday in Linn-Benton’s 84-75 victory over Walla Walla.

Saturday, Getsfrid had 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in an 81-72 win over Edmonds.

The Roadrunners, who advanced to the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships Final Four, will play Peninsula at 2 p.m. Saturday in Everett, Washington for a spot in the finals.

Women’s basketball

Corey James (West Albany) had three points and four rebounds Friday as Portland State dropped a 102-99 decision to Idaho in the semifinals of the Big Sky tournament in Reno, Nevada.

The Vikings finished the season with a 19-13 overall record.


Kelsey Broadus (West Albany) tossed a two-hit shutout with two walks and eight strikeouts Friday as Boise State cruised to a 4-0 victory over Colgate.

Last Thursday, Broadus lasted five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts in a 3-0 loss to UC Riverside.

Both games were part of the Highlander Classic in Riverside, California.


Julia Smith-Harrington (West Albany) threw all five innings and gave up just one run on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks Sunday in a 9-1 victory over Fairfield.

Saturday, Smith-Harrington whirled a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts and two walks in a 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s.

Both games were part of the Tiger Clash in Towson, Maryland.


Cheyanne Rimer (Scio) went a combined 0 for 3 with a walk Sunday as Western Oregon dropped both legs of a doubleheader at Simon Fraser in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Friday, Rimer went a combined 1 for 6 with two RBIs in a split with Western Washington in Bellingham, Washington.


Kaylee Buhrkuhl (Santiam Christian) went a combined 5 for 8 with an RBI and three runs scored Saturday as Corban swept a doubleheader at Northwest in Kirkland, Washington.

Friday, Buhrkuhl went a combined 4 for 8 with two RBIs and three runs scored in a road sweep of Northwest.


Emily Marchbanks (Sweet Home) threw a five-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts and a walk Friday in Newberry’s 8-0 home victory over Southern Wesleyan in Newberry, South Carolina.

Last Thursday, Marchbanks pitched three innings and gave up three runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout in a 14-6 home win over Augusta.

Hannah Yelas (Santiam Christian) lasted all seven innings and surrendered five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks Saturday in Northwest’s 5-0 home loss to Corban.

Yelas also went the distance Friday, giving up nine runs (three earned) on 11 hits with four walks and four strikeouts in a 9-5 loss to visiting Corban.


Nicole Whitney (Santiam Christian) went a combined 0 for 4 Friday as San Diego Christian dropped both legs of a doubleheader at Vanguard in Costa Mesa, California.

Last Thursday, Whitney went a combined 2 for 6 with a walk and a run scored in a home split with Saint Thomas in Santee, California.


Kennedy Jantzi (West Albany) went a combined 2 for 7 with an RBI Sunday as Mt. Hood split a pair of games with Bellevue and Treasure Valley.

Saturday, Jantzi went a combined 3 for 8 with a walk and three runs scored in wins over Oregon City and Shoreline.


Darren Crosby (Santiam Christian) struck out three and gave up just one hit in two innings of relief Saturday in Whitworth’s 7-0 victory over George Fox in Spokane, Washington.


Josh Gerig (East Linn Christian) went 0 for 2 with a walk Friday in Howard Payne’s 8-0 loss at Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi.


Jackson Soto (West Albany) went 0 for 2 with an RBI and a walk Saturday as Lane suffered a 3-2 loss at Lower Columbia in Longview, Washington.

Friday, Soto went a combined 0 for 7 in a split at Lower Columbia.


Evan Cyrus (West Albany) scored a run Sunday in Linn-Benton’s 11-1 victory at Blue Mountain in Pendleton.
