WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — Oregon State rower Martin Forde qualified for a spot on the 2012 U.S. Senior World Championship team in the U.S. lightweight men’s eight at the Senior Non-Olympic Trials on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. on Wednesday morning.
The 2012 Senior and Junior World Championships will take place Aug. 14-19 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Forde, a native of Mill Creek, Wash., qualified with the lightweight men’s eight rowing with a composite crew from Community Rowing Inc., and Riverside Boat Club consisting of coxswain Sean Fanning, Anders Corbett, Andrew Hashway, Nick Dawe, Sean McKenna, Will Robins and Eric Rhiel.
Forde’s crew covered the course in 5 minutes, 57.839 seconds to finish nearly five seconds ahead of an entry from the Vesper Boat Club, which happened to include Dan Scholz, who lettered at OSU from 2004-06.
A sophomore-to-be, Forde rowed in the stroke seat of the Beavers’ freshman eight during the 2012 season setting the pace for OSU’s rookies in wins over Gonzaga, Stanford and Santa Clara as well as a bronze medal finish at the Pac-12 Championships in May.
