FAIRFAX, Calif. — Olivia Benzin continued her strong play this season with her second consecutive even-par round of 72 to pace the Oregon State women’s golf team on Tuesday in the final round of the Meadow Club Intercollegiate.
Benzin led the Beavers to their best overall round of the 54-hole tournament with a 4-over-par 292, moving OSU up the leaderboard to ninth place. The sophomore made two birdies Tuesday to move up four spots to finish 11th place. She fired rounds of 75, 72 and 72.
“I’m really proud of how we bounced back today,” OSU head coach Dawn Shockley said. “Oliva was steady once again and Nicole (Schroeder) responded very well to things we talked about after yesterday’s play. We’ll continue to learn and move forward. We’re excited to compete again in a couple days at UCLA.”
Schroeder, a true-freshman, shot one of the best rounds of the day and lowest for the Beavers during the event with a 2-under-70. She birdied three of the final four holes on the front nine and played even par golf on the final nine. Her teammate Elyse Smidinger placed second for the Beavers at 226 and tied for the best scoring on the Par 5s overall in the field shooting a 6-under cumulative. Schroeder tied for 51st overall, while fellow OSU players Hannah Swanson tied for 45th and Susie Cavanagh tied for 56th.
Oregon State returns to action March 13-14 at the Elite 8 Match Play in Los Angeles.
